Fear and Mission Trips

Fear and mission trips seem to go hand in hand.  Danger can feel to be around every corner.  The imagination runs wild, as a person begins to contemplate what life outside the United States is like.  It’s just reality.  The darkest places are not the safest places.

(Even though God says that he is your light and your shield.)

But forget the unforeseen danger that awaits us!  What about raising the money!? How can a poor college kid logically sign up for a trip like this without having any clue of where the money is going to come from!  Does that even make sense!?

(Even though God says he is the provider of every good thing, and he will accomplish his will.)

But forget the money! What if the team hates me!?  What if they are judgmental towards my sin?  I’m not even close to perfect.  Is this trip only for perfect people? It seems like it.  Maybe I’m not the “missionary type”.

(Even though it is God that works his love is us, and compels us to love each other as he has loved us. AND he says that he will equip us for every good work that he has planned in advance for us to do.)

This brand of fear is common, and it tries to make us feel like we are the only one.  The only one. The coward.  The faithless. Fear makes us feel like we are destined to fail.

Kill fear.
